Mr
I bought a VW Passat in 2020 from VW Glen. Together with this purchase I bought a maintence plan for to R70 000 and also paid an addirional R10 000 this year to extend the maintence plan. About couple of weeks ago I had a starting issues with my vehicle, I managed to get it started and took it to Lindsay Saker in Alberton who services my car. The service advisor called me later in the day to advise me that there was a dead cell on the battery. I advised him to replace the battery as this forms part of my maintence plan. The Service advisor advised me that the maintence plan will not cover the battery as the car has a Raylite battery and not a VW battery. I advised him that I bought the car as is from the VW Glen and I dont check what battery the car has. Linday Saker suggested that I address this matter with VW Glen. I spoke with the dealer principal at the VW Glen and and he advised that it was 2 years old and there is nothing that they can do. I referred this matter to VW South Africa and they were more inclined to helping their VW Glen instead of helping the customer. I tooked my car to Battery Centre who are the agents for Raylite batteries. They advised me that the battery in the car was replaced in 2019 and it is also engraved on the battrey. I went back to VW Glen and advised them what was confirmed by Battery Centre. I bought the car in 2020 and the battery was replaced in 2019 how is this my problem. I finally managed to get some documents/printouts from VW Glen which I sent to Lindsay Saker to verify as they are adamant that the car came into their dealership with a Raylite battery when they first serviced my car. They also didnt inform me that the car had a Raylite battery fitted. Both the dealership are now passing the buck between themselves whilist VW South Africa are folding their hands and smiling. In the menatime I had to replace the battery at my cost as I was having to get a jump start daily. It amazing that such big companies are shying away from their responsibilities knowing full well what they done is disgusting and shameful. If I don't get a favourable response I will escalte to the Motor Industry Ombudsman.
