Disappointing experience – not acceptable for business-critical equipment

I placed a substantial order with GeeWiz. Unfortunately, one of the items developed an intermittent fault, which I reported promptly. Under Section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act, defective goods returned within six months may, at the consumer’s direction, be repaired, replaced or refunded, subject to the requirements of the Act. Instead, it took several days for GeeWiz to collect the faulty item, with their communication stating that it would be sent for testing. My concern is not only the delay. I use these products in installations at customers’ homes. I cannot reasonably install a product that has already demonstrated an intermittent fault and then take the risk that it may fail at a customer’s premises. Even if GeeWiz subsequently tests the unit and declares it functional, I would not be comfortable installing that particular unit in a customer’s home. For comparison, my experience with Takealot has been that a faulty product can be returned quickly and a replacement obtained promptly, which is far more practical when equipment is required for a customer installation. I ordered a significant amount of equipment from GeeWiz and expected a correspondingly professional level of after-sales service. This experience has seriously reduced my confidence in using GeeWiz for equipment that I need to rely on professionally. Lesson learned: when purchasing equipment for customer installations, dependable after-sales service and rapid replacement are just as important as price. Based on this experience, I will think very carefully before purchasing from GeeWiz again.

Hi Deon

We are sorry to hear that your experience with GeeWiz did not meet your expectations, particularly as this was your first purchase with us and the equipment is used for professional installations.

We fully understand your concern about installing a unit that has developed an intermittent fault. Our process for customers outside Gauteng requires faulty items to be collected by a third-party courier and returned to the supplier for testing. As the collection and delivery are handled separately, we unfortunately cannot facilitate an immediate direct swap at the time of collection.

We appreciate that this process can be frustrating when equipment is required for a customer installation, and we acknowledge that the turnaround and communication in this instance did not meet the level of service we aim to provide.

Your refund request has been noted and is being attended to. We sincerely regret that this experience has affected your confidence in GeeWiz, and we appreciate your feedback as it highlights areas where we can improve our after-sales process.

Kind Regards,
GeeWiz Management.
