Performance issue 200Mbps Async fibre connection - No urgency to resolve
I have been complaining about my FROGFOOT fibre line speed issue since December 2021. My fibre subscription is for a 200Mbps asynchronous connection. Between Frogfoot and my current ISP all we do is conduct speed tests and screenshots without any results. A technician from Frogfoot came onsite last Monday, 29 August 2022 @ 9am to resolve the issue. Two and a half hours later they have managed to replace the ONT but was unable to perform a breakout test with a specialist assisting from the NOC centre. They were un-able to connect using static IP Addresses for the JHB and CPT networks. The insane part is the technician was called several times during this callout and told to get out to another more important outage in our area. When he questioned the person calling as to how they will resolve the issue he was told the issue will be escalated for further troubleshooting. This afternoon, on my enquiry, my ISP advised me the ticket was closed and further testing from my side was required as they did recommission the line and relaced the ONT. Connecting the ONT directly to my laptop 1GB ethernet port yielded slower speeds: 15Mbps and 22Mps upload and 28Mbps and 22Mbps download speeds. Working in IT for more than 33 years and running my own IT Consulting business I find this shocking service. Searching the Internet for similar instances of bad customer service reported on this site reveals similar situations resulting in people switching to other fibre service providers to get service. A few years ago, ADSL was sold as a best effort service. FTTH and the resellers of the service chase connection numbers but cannot deliver the technical backup in the event where issues like this surface. I pose a question to Frogfoot management: “Lets turn the situation around and switch roles. Will you be happy paying for the service, yet you only get excuses and less than 20% of the speed you have signed up for?”. I think I can guess the answer.
