I went to Foschini Somerset Mall,on Sunday 16th of June looking for make up. As soon as my sister and I walked in, we were met with rude stares from the attendants, and them looking at us up and down like we don’t belong. So I needed help with seeing what colour foundation would suit me. Nobody came to help me, so I went to politely ask for help because they were chatting to themselves and not seeing me at all. From nowhere the lady starts shouting at me, and was extremely rude, I just decided not to buy and leave the makeup. Please note she shouted because I asked her for help(in her shouting, she revealed that there was nobody to help me because those who were meant to be at their stations were on lunch break, bearing in mind she’s literally shouting at me. I then question Foschini, does your make up side stop functioning because some people are on lunch break? What is the point of having attendants if they don’t speak to us but amongst themselves?). I asked for her name, so I could review her personally, but she refused to tell me. Then she started acting nice only because I said I want to review her, then she got the other attendants to convince me that she’s naturally loud and she’s always shouting. One naturally goes to assume whether it’s because I’m black that I don’t belong in the Foschini store? The attendants look at you like you must leave the shop, are they trained to cater for a certain kind caliber of people? Do they categorize people and decide this one is not worth good welcome and service but must be shouted at like a dog? How sad, these are the people that Foschini puts in the forefront of their shop to make us feel welcome and okay enough to buy things? Wow.
