Receiving collection emails from MBD Attorney's for an account which was paid up 2019

In June 2019 before I moved abroad I visited the Foschini store in Campus Square in Johannesburg. The staff at the store was unfriendly and it seemed as if I was interrupting their relaxing time. After explaining to them that I would like to close my account they reluctantly called the Head Office to get a settlement amount. I paid the amount provided and requested that they provide me with a paid up letter, I was advised that it would be requested and emailed to me, this never happened. Believing that the account is paid up I moved abroad. Suddenly on the 26/01/2022, 31 months later I received an email from MBD Attorneys advising that I have not paid the agreed amount. Please note I have never spoken to any person from MBD, so I'm not sure what arrangement I made with them. This morning I called FTG group head office and after repeating my story 3 times I was transferred to a lady Vuyokazi. She advised me that she would be requesting a paid up letter (***) which would take 7-14 days. I requested that they liaise with their collections agent MBD to advise that the account is paid up and that whatever amount they claiming that I owe be sc****d as I will not be paying it. I was told that I should contact MBD, really??? I refused as I have not hired them. I also requested that I be provided with feedback from them and their attorneys that this matter had been settled. To my surprise I was told that the paid up letter will suffice. My concern is that MBD will be listing me on ITC for none payment which is not my fault. We all know that an account is prescribed after 3 year, therefore the are suddenly emailing me. As mentioned I have never been in contact with MBD nore them with me prior to their email, not sure when the account was handed over, however because I've work for a financial company I know how these collection agents work. My request is that Foschini and MBD sort out their mess as I will not be paying any amount they claim I own whomever, that I be provided with a paid up letter and that I receive a letter from MDB advising that everything has been resolved. I will be requesting an ITC report and if I am listed I will be requesting that they pay for the report and I definitely will be addressing this matter with my attorney as well as the NCC.
