Foschini really needs to take a long, hard look at their POPIA compliance...
This is neither a good, nor bad review on a whole. Neo from Foschini The Grove, what an absolute pleasure to work with. Friendly and helpful. Then we get to the till to pay, and the cashier asks me if I have a reward card, to which I say no. She then proceeds to ask me for my ID number. I re-iterate I don't have a reward card, but she persists. Curious to see where this is going, thinking to myself that there is so much wrong here in terms of POPIA (I am a Project Manager for compliance implementation), I give her my ID number and she seems very confused, as the ID number - according to her belongs to Phumelo. Believe me, I am definitely not Phumelo. I give the cashier my ID card to prove this and she rectifies, I presume, the information as she then proceeds to ask me for my cell number. There is much to be concerned about here Foschini, however the two things that jump out at me are the following. 1) Why is my ID number linked to someone else in your records? (Suppose it was sort of a blessing in disguise?) 2) Why are your cashiers asking for people's ID numbers to begin with?
If you need help getting POPIA compliance before the grace period ends on 30 June, perhaps you need to make contact with me so that we can discuss it, ensure things like what happened to me, don't happen to someone else - maybe someone from the Information Regulator who can cause all sorts of financial and ******** hell for Foschini, purely due to lack of awareness maybe?
