Card security or lack there if

I forgot my card at home so I asked a consultant from Foschini - Somerset West for a temp card but I was informed that this was not possible. Fine, I can live with that, so I ask for a card replacement as I REALLY wanted to buy a bag from Mat&May on my account as a birthday gift to myself. So I give my license card as proof of identity but to my surprise it was not acceptable as it did not have the same picture as on the system (or security reasons, I have to produce my actual ID which I didn't have on me)? How this made sense to the people who implemented it is beyond me. I was so irritated so I'm like okay just close the account then the lady calls the call centre and informs them. They talk for like 2 minutes the she drops the phone and tells me it's done. How? Without them speaking to me? Where are these security measures now? What if it wasn't really me closing the account? Also, don't you want to know why I want to close my account incase it's something that could be easily fixed? How about self development? Points going forward? After how many years being a loyal account holder? I was baffled and I still am! Thank you for your security measures they have protected me from buying my R1,799.00 Mat&May bag but not from a con-artist from closing my account.
