Account balance

My name is Cathrine I had a foschini account more than a decade ago, I had financial problems and struggled to to pay it but eventually I did that was year ago, so last month I called them and just to find out if everything was sorted my account my uptodate only to find that there is still a balance there and it will remain like that as long even if I have paid it off. Pls help me if this is how things should be
