Flexi Holiday Club Disaster in La Montagne, Balito
I would like to notify you of our HORRIFIC experience!!!!
On the 22nd of February 2018 we checked into unit 316, at La Montagne for two weeks. The unit had been renovated but unfortunately we found the fridge was too small, and even the kitchen pots were inadequate. We did complain to reception and the problem was solved, in that a bigger fridge and additional pot was supp****.
In the meantime, my wife kept complaining about a terrible smell in the flat. I kept mentioning that the smell could be from the outside.
On 27 of February at 4 h15 in the morning, we were woken up by a huge crash. At first, I thought somebody had broken in. After checking the flat, we discovered that half of the ceiling in the second bedroom had collapsed between the beds and broke the lamp shade. We returned to bed to be woken up again at 4h58 by another loud crash, only to find out that the rest of the ceiling had collapsed. We discovered the smell that that my wife was complaining about had gotten worse and was coming from this room now that the ceiling had collapsed. This also caused both of us to have terrible cough fits.
We reported this to La Montagne management and at 8h00 in the morning, the managing director, other managers and a young lady from the Vacation Zone came to look at the damage. I asked the staff to please report this to Flexi Club.
We requested to move to another unit, but the managing director informed my wife that there were no other units available in La Montagne, but had units available at Cabana Beach and Breakers in Umhlanga Rocks. Alternatively, we would have to stay in the current unit whilst the repair to the ceiling was being carried out. We decided to remain in the unit.
As you can imagine, the noise and dust from the repair was unbearable. We couldn’t even sit in the lounge as the two mattresses from the room were in there.
At 18h00 the ceiling was finally repaired and we were waiting for the cleaning staff to clean the unit. It was agreed with the managing director that the painting of the ceiling would take place after we checked out.
In the morning of 4 of March we noticed in the second room, which had the repaired ceiling, a puddle of water on the floor which was dripping from the corner of the ceiling. We reported this to the managing director.
On the morning of 7 of March, we found all the clothes that were on top of the bed in the second bedroom, as well as the bed and bed linen were soaked in water. The ceiling was dripping considerable.
We contacted the maintenance manager. He informed us that the ceiling would have to be removed for further investigation regarding the water leak.
We checked out the following day and were relieved to be out of there.
We have been coming to La Montagne every year since 1990, but after this experience we do not intend to return. Considering the amount of money that La Montagne charges for the units, we feel this was not value for money.
I’ve attached photos of the damage in the room for your review.
After this experience, my rating is 1 out of 10.
I must emphasize, that the staff at La Montagne are exceptional, we received excellent service and they were always willing to help.
