ZERO CARE AND SAFETY OF GUEST
First group resorts are the worst to go to,regarding your safety and possessions. On the 8th of August 2024,our group of 16,booked into First Group ,Bushman Nek Resort in Drakensburg. That same evening we experienced vicous winds. The roofs seemed as if boulders were being thrown on them. My husband and I were in room 44,ground floor. Bricks were literally falling from above and breaking near our sliding door. At around 11pm,a couple that had come for their anniversary, their roof flew off. The management just tried to get them another room, without warning the guests of the DANGER.,approaching. A FIRE which was seen like over 2kms away grew nearer and nearer. Yet guest were told to ho back to sleep. Those natural forces was frequent in that area, nothing to worry about. The FIRE 🔥 got closer and closer, soon smoke started creeping in through the doors,BUT STILL NO FIRE SIREN ,NO FIRE ALARMS, NO FIRE EXTINGUISHER S,NO SAFETY PROTOCOL WAS IN PLACE. THE GUEST ALERTED EACH OTHER. I kept phoning my family's because we were in 5 different rooms. Before we knew what was happening we were engulfed in smoke. Next instance the Resort was on fire 🔥. The guest escaped WITHOUT THE help of management. My entire family escaped with only the night clothes we had on. EVERYTHING ,ALL OUR BELONGINGS WERE LOST IN THE FIRE. AND MANAGEMENT SAYS WE ARE NOT ENTITLED FOR REIMBUR*****T. I UNDERSTAND THAT, IF WE HAD LOST OUR BELONGINGS AFTER GETTING WARNINGS ABOUT THE APPROACHING DANGER, IT WOULD BE MY NEGLIGENCE. BUT NOTHING, AGAIN NO ALARMS ,NO SIRENS,NOTHING THERE WERE SO MANY ASTAMA PATIENTS, THERE WAS NOT ONE AMBULANCE, FIRE BRIGADE CAME AFTER WE LEFT.
FIRST GROUP MANAGEMENT SAYS ALL SAFETY WAS IN PLACE, THEY LIE. THEY TOLD US THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS LOOKING INTO OUR CLAIMS, WE HAD TO LIE LOW IN ORDER FOR THEM TO GET PAYOUT. THEY RECEIVED THEIR PAYOUT AND HAS DENIED OURS.
Bushman’s Nek Berg and Trout Resort, which was completely destroyed by fire on the 9th of August 2024, was owned and operated by Bushman’s Nek Share Block Limited. First Group markets and manages a large portfolio of prime resorts locally and internationally, the Resort being one. It is unwarranted and unfair to use the fire that devasted the whole Bushman’s Nek area to make the statement that “First Group are the worst to go to regarding your safety and possessions”.Ms Kissoon’s claims about the lack of fire safety protocols and fire fighting equipment at the Resort are untrue. The events leading up to, during and after the fire have been fully investigated by independent experts. No negligence on the part of the Resort or its staff was found. The fire was the worst in living memory. As the fire moved down the Drakensberg mountains, the local fire protection association and its firefighters believed the fire to be serious but manageable. Conditions changed suddenly and they and everyone in the path of the fire were overwhelmed. Priority was given to saving lives above property. The reaction of the Resort’s staff under terrifying circumstances was to do their best to keep people calm and to ensure that they were safe. To this end, they were successful. There was no loss of life and injuries were minor, given the extent of the fire.Ms Kissoon’s comments about the local fire brigade and ambulance services are unfortunate, and again, unfair. They serve a large area with limited resources. They too, prioritised their actions to ensure that those in greatest need were attended to first.Had the Resort or its staff been at fault or in any way contributed to the losses suffered by guests, Ms Kissoon and her group may have been covered, at least in part, by the Resort’s insurers. Having found no fault on the part of the Resort or its staff, the Resort’s insurers declined the claims of guests. Guests would have to look to their own insurers for compensation.Ms Kissoon and all guests have been fully informed about all of this in the days and weeks after the fire. Her accusation that First Group has **** about these events is defamatory. To make the statements she has more than six months after the event can serve no purpose other than to harm the reputation of First Group or to try to ****** a payment out of them to keep quiet. First Group will not bow to this kind of pressure.
