Unreasonable Cancellation Penalty

I joined the Centurion Club in August (last month) and signed up for a 12 month contract. The location of the club is too far out of my way and I have not been able to make use of the club's services at all. Today I requested that the membership be cancelled as I am not able to make use of the services. I am now told that I need to pay R1298 cancellation fee after less than a month of joining.

This company simply wants to milk as much money out of you as possible, as the cancellation fee amount is not indicated anywhere during the sign up process when joining. So when you cancel: SURPRISE!!! So essentially I have been with the Club less than a month, and in total to cancel it will have cost me R3000 for that one month.
