WHAT AM I PAYING FOR???
<p>I am quite disgusted with Fedhealth at the moment, I am asking for help and I am just getting shot down everywhere. I had to get authorisation for my 5year old to go to a day clinic for a SMALL dental procedure. I got the authorisation with a co-payment of R5800.00!! Last year there was no co-payment for the same procedure, this year it's R5800.00. So I wrote a motivational letter to the Fund Manager to request them to reconsider the co-payment as this was for a 5 year old. You cannot expect them to sit in a dentist chair and get an injection in the mouth in order for the dentist to fix the tooth. After struggling to get an answer for 2 weeks, I was told that they cannot waive this as it was procedural and on my medical aid plan, that is what the co-payment is. That's it? What a **** answer. I know thats the co-payment, and obviously it is "procedural" otherwise my daughter would not need to go. So I guess they just said no for the sake of it and did not really look at my reasons. Secondly, I asked Fedhealth if I can use a portion of MY savings, that I pay for, to pay toward the co-payment and was told NO! Honestly, what do I pay for then if I cannot be helped with anything? I am taking my daughter for this procedure and will be cancelling my Medical Aid with Fedhealth afterwards!</p>

Fedhealth did phone me back but still refused to waive the co-payment. They did however said that they will help me use a portion of my savings to pay towards the co-payment. Yesterday I took my child to the day clinic and even the staff at the clinic expressed how ridiculous the co-payment amount is. The lady at reception said that it would probably not even cost a lot more than that for the procedure - I say again, I had to take my 5 year old to get one hole in her tooth fixed - R5,800.00 co payment?????? There was another lady with a child much older than mine, she is on Discovery, and her co-payment was only R930.00. They told me that the highest co-payment they have ever had is R3000.00. I am still very disappointed and quite disgusted by this whole affair. I still wonder why I pay so much for a hospital plan if it means nothing to me.
