VERY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH FEDHEALTH - FOLLOW UP AS I AM STILL NOT HAPPY!

Since my last comment on this matter a representative from Fedhealth called me to discuss the matter.

Eventually this was passed onto a more senior person who then contacted me. Prior to this conversation I managed to get a copy of the signed original membership application forms.

Although I am not s****ed in the legal side of the Medical Aid requirements and as a layman in this field, I found, in my opinion, there to be some very alarming things that Fedhealth had done with this application?

1. The girl in question was only 14 years old at the time that she signed this Fedhealth medical aid document as the principle member. As I explained previously, she is now 18 and resides with us since the person who was looking after her passed away.

2. The person looking after her at the time, now deceased, signed the documents giving his banking details being responsible for all payments (in section 7 of this document "BANKING DETAILS OF PRINCIPLE MEMBER"). On the application form Fedhealth has a check list for their consultant to ensure that all requirements are checked to be 100% correct before it is submitted. It even states "Please note if you are not 110% sure don't submit, speak to me or (a specific person whom I will not mention) only"

The consultant then signed it . What the check list does not detail and the consultant did not check, is that the person signing was not the legal guardian of this 14 year old girl.

3. After this person then passed away and there was an outstanding amount Fedhealth put a judgement against her and handed her over to their debt collectors. The debt collectors then continued harassing this young girl. She explained the situation to both the debt collectors and Fedhealth who were not interested and insisted she make payment, which is when I got involved.

After explaining this to the apparently senior Fedhealth representative , he concluded the following:

1. He removed the judgement against her name and any bad credit references however, I still have no written correspondence of this.

2. He informed the debt collectors to cease harassing her and I still do not have any written correspondence of this.

3. He then told me that as I was not the legal guardian either and he would need to contact her legal guardians, being her parents, to verify if they were aware of this application and he would then come back to me on the matter.

I gave him her Fathers number and later acquired and gave him her Mothers number. As I understand he contacted the Father to discuss. After this the Father then contacted me to confirm with me that he new nothing about this policy and did therefore, not give his consent.

Approximatelly 2 weeks have now passed and after leaving several messages the Fedhealth consultant finally phoned me this morning to say he has still not got hold of her Mother to verify this and as I am not the legal guardian he cannot speak to me any further regards this matter.

I firstly, find this unacceptable as the girl in question since my discussion with the consultant, using the same number, managed to contact her Mother regards this matter, and apparently her Mother said she did not even know the name of the medical aid company she is refering to never mind giving her consent.

And, secondly I reminded the Fedhealth consultant that he said he would come back to me regarding this matter and the outstanding amount reflecting. The Fedhealth consultant said to me that she (the girl in question) does not need to worry about the outstanding amount and that he cannot speak to me any more regards this.

MY EXTREME CONCERNS WITH THIS ENTIRE INCIDENT ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1. It alarms me that an organisation like Fedhealth can accept an application signed by a minor without consent from their legal guardians. If this is an acceptable practice and the industry norm, then it is very scary to me?

2. The Fedhealth consultant never came back to me as he said he would, so therefore I assume consumer complaints are not a priority for Fedhealth?

3. I still have no written correspondence from Fedhealth confirming that all has now been resolved and the girl in question is now cleared from this.

4. What about possible trauma/damages caused to the young girl because of the harassment form both Fedhealth and their debt collectors?

Im summary this is really SCARY for me and maybe this needs to be addressed and added to the check list so this does not occur in the future?
