Underwriters take forever

On Friday 03 July I went to my doctor and was told I would have to undergo a minor procedure.I received all the relevant information for authorisation and after spending 26 minutes on my cellphone I was finally told the authorisation would be passed to the underwriters for investigation because I haven't been part of the medical aid for a year.

This would have been fine but the hospital theatre was booked for Tuesday 07 July but with the superior underwriters the turnaround time is 3 working days no matter the urgency, even if you are in pain. On the afternoon of the 6th of July I phoned to follow up and once again a 24 minute call yielded no results I was told again they have a turnaround time thus theatre had tobe cancelled.
I then phoned on the 7th which would have been my operation date to once again follow up. This time I was told that it was only referred on the 6th (not the 3rd) and the turnaround time was 48 hours.
When I queried this the agent said she would find out what's going on and after yet another 15 minute phone bill she had no answers as to the progress of the situation and said she would send an e-mail to them. Tomorrow is the 3rd working day, let's see.
