Savings - depleted in first 4 months

Hello,

I pay R3200+ per month for my medical aid (no family, just me - 1 person). R546 per month goes into my savings. That is only 17%. Yes, we do get medical aids for fear of accidents and needing a good hospital plan. But seriously 17% for savings?

And every year the self payment threshold increases: 2017: 11200.00 2016: 10000.00

I have a hereditary condition and there are meds that I don't have any choice in taking and yes they are expensive. So I understand that I would have to pay a bit come the end of the year. However, this year my threshold was reached at the end of April. I have to pay R11 000 out of pocked before my savings kicks in again. Like last year I will probably not miss that number by about R1000.

I would really like to understand why savings is such a small amount % of the overall amount paid.

I'm not sure how much longer i can afford R1 800 extra per month (which means I essentially pay around R5000 per month for medical).

I just don't get it Fedhealth. R5K per month is an extraordinary amount per month to "feel better". Is the only other option to leave your medical scheme?

PS. For those of you who need to see a mental health professional and Fedhealth keeps telling you it is not part of your benefits? They are lying. According to SA Law they are forced to pay for a set amount of appointments. It's only when you bring up that fact, that they start paying for these appointments.
