Pre-Authorisation means NOTHING
I went in for a hospital procedure on 15 October 2015. My Doctors receptionist called for authorisation on the procedure which she received. When she called me to tell me that the procedure has been authorised for 15 October, I asked if there was a co-payment and she said no. The day of the procedure when I was booking in at reception, the lady said she must check if there is a co-payment 1st. She told me there wasn't. 2 weeks after the procedure I got a bill from Mediclinic for R5000.00, when I emailed Fedhealth I got a generic reply with all procedures that have co-payments. I explained that I was not happy because I should have been informed prior to the procedure. I am still waiting for a reply. I then called the call centre today ***, admitted by the call centre I should have been told about the co-payment prior to the procedure. I asked her to escalate my query and get back to me today which she said she would. I am still waiting for her call. I want this sorted out ASAP otherwise I will be left with no choice but to present my case to the Ombudsman. If a co-payment was due I should have been advised at authorisation or even at the hospital. Not 2 weeks after!!!
