Negligence Endangering My Pregnancy

Fedhealth has been the biggest mistake I’ve ever made. They sell you a dream to get you to join, but when it comes to actual coverage, they don’t deliver.

Since October, when I found out I was pregnant, I’ve had nothing but issues. As a high-risk patient with hypertension and diabetes, I inquired about my pregnancy coverage, only to be told that nothing was covered. I upgraded my plan as advised, but they required blood tests to confirm my pregnancy first.

I visited my gynecologist for routine checks, but my blood tests weren’t covered—I had to pay R2,800 out of pocket. Another time, I fell ill at work and started spotting. When I called Fedhealth, they advised that if it didn’t improve, I should go to the emergency room. I followed their instructions, only to be told that my visit wasn’t covered, leaving me with another bill of R2,100. Meanwhile, I pay nearly R2,500 monthly for this medical aid, without fail.

When I contacted them for an explanation, they claimed my savings had been depleted, even though I had been making regular payments. They then informed me that the outstanding amount should have been a separate payment, which I agreed to settle. However, they now want to take two separate debit orders instead of one, which negatively impacts my credit score.

Every doctor visit related to my pregnancy has been a struggle, and I am now stuck with multiple unpaid hospital bills while still being forced to pay Fedhealth. My baby is due in three months, and they have suspended my medical aid, refusing to cover my gynecologist visits. Due to their mishandling, I am under immense stress, unable to afford essential items for my baby, as all my money goes toward medical expenses.

I was with Bonitas for years before switching due to a job change, and I never experienced these issues with them. Fedhealth, if anything happens to my baby due to the stress you are causing me, I will take legal action. I will also be reporting this matter to the Ombudsman for Medical Schemes and exposing your dismissive emails to the public. You are a disgrace, taking advantage of hardworking people, and I would never recommend you to anyone.
