Misleading Advice from Fedhealth Medical Aid
Melanie Pearson This sounds all too fami****. Fedhealth are not concerned about members health, all they want is their members money. I've been sent to a recommended neurosurgeon on their network on Fedhealths advice. Have been for the appointment and MRI scans, a quote for required surgery was submitted for Authorisation the Fedhealth. A month later, only a part of the items on the quotation will be paid for by the medical aid. I ask what the hospital co-payment is about. The answer: "Because the neurosurgeon you've sought help from doesn't operate out of Olivedale clinic, you'll have to pay the R11,500 co-payment."
Get this - I must go to their surgeon - who incidently I still covered all the consultation costs - and now, they approve part of the cost of doing the operation, but hangon, he has to operate out of one of Fedhealths preferred hospitals!!
Why advise Fedhealth members to go to a Neurosurgeion who doesn't operate out of the hospitals that Fedhealth has an agreement with? I cannot fathom this, other than to say it's gross negligence with total lack of responsibility. Without accountability for giving such poor customer advice and also taking no responsibility for this mess, we are held at gunpoint by Fedhealth. Disgusting behavior and service - I expect that they would at the very least waiver this co payment that I must now find and make. No, what do they do - they send me the name of another neurosurgeon at another hospital, whom they expect me to restart the entire process with. What is wrong with this organisation? I am in pain, have already done a 12 session course with the neck and back clinic where my spinal condition was further deteriorated, and now this?

Numerous times Fedhealth staff have said exactly that: "We will get back to you"
*****, there is no effort whatsoever to attend to member queries or for help.
Even the telephone brags that they have extended their call centre hours to 7pm, yet at 5pm, they cut off my call that I was holding on. When I called back, I was told by a recorded voice that they were now closed and I should call back during office hours!
