Lying, cheating, con artists
My husband and I joined Fedhealth in January 2017. We chose the Maxima Exec plan, which cost us almost R10,000 per month. Worth it, we thought, for peace of mind. The sales person on the recorded call promised us that we could start claiming immediately from doctors in their network, that the 90 day waiting period was only applicable to doctors out of their network. A few weeks later we found out that I was pregnant. We were so glad that we didn't have to wait 90 days to be able to start claiming. Boy, were we in for a nasty surprise, that is continuing to this day, more than a year later. The first time I tried to claim, specifically choosing a doctor in their network, they denied the claim because of the 90 day waiting period. Turns out the waiting period is always applicable and the sales person blatantly **** to us. We asked for to hear the recorded call to prove that the sales person **** to us, but they told us that we can't have a copy of the audio file, but that they will transcribe the call and email us a copy of the transcript. They still haven't done this more than a year later. Whenever we ask about it, they are still busy transcribing it. Fast forward a few months, I am 6 months pregnant and get an authorization number from Fedhealth to book a room in the maternity ward for when I am due. Everything goes smoothly and I think that maybe we just got off on the wrong foot with Fedhealth, and things are going to work out after all. After our baby is born and we are discharged from the hospital we start getting phone calls from the obstetrician, pediatrician and anesthesiologist's offices, all saying that the medical aid will not pay out. The obstetrician was the first one to try sending through his claim, they paid out the entire amount that was in our savings, and refused to pay anything more, because according to them they didn't recognize the authorization number on the claim form. The anesthesiologist tried claiming and was denied for the same reason. The pediatrician's claim was denied, because according to Fedhealth my baby was not a member, even though we completed the form and had confirmation that he was in fact added to our policy from his birth date, as well as having in increase in our premium to over R11,000 per month. Finally after numerous phone calls and weeks later, the obstetrician and pediatrician were paid, but they refused to pay the anesthesiologist in full, even though they have an agreement with that specific anesthesiologist, that they cover his fees in full. We ended up just settling the bill ourselves, because we were so tired of pleading with Fedhealth to just do their jobs. Thankfully after that for a while we did not have to claim anything, because we were all in good health. My baby boy then was diagnosed with acid reflux, and needed to be on medication. When I tried claiming for the medication at the pharmacy, they said that the medical aid refused to pay because my son is not a member. I let it go, I wasn't even surprised anymore at Fedhealth's uselessness. I myself have been to the GP twice in the last 6 months, and didn't even bother claiming for the visits, as it is just not worth the fight. I kept thinking, 'at least if something serious happens and one of us needs to go to hospital we will be covered'. Today was the last straw. My baby, now 5 months old, was diagnosed with croup at the pediatrician's office today. As I was about to leave, the accounts lady sternly asked to me to come see her. She told me that all of my outstanding payments needed to be made today, before I could leave. I was taken aback, as I didn't even know there were any outstanding payments. Each time we have visited the pediatrician, she directly claimed from the medical aid, I assumed she was getting paid directly from them. Today I had to pay R2300 in cash, as the last 3 claims they had sent to the medical aid were denied, because according to Fedhealth our membership ended in October 2017, almost six months ago. So today, I had to pay for three pediatricians visits in cash, then pay cash for my baby's medicine. The pediatrician advised that my baby would have to be hospitalized if his condition worsened at all. If this happens I will have to pay cash for a hospital stay as well, because there is not a snowball's chance in hell that those bulsh*tters at Fedhealth are going to pay. I demand to at least have my over R66,000 in premiums, from October 2017 to now, refunded, because that is when our membership was "ended", even though they have been receiving our premiums every month. Bunch of lying, cheating, ****bags.
