<p>my family are on fedhealth maxima plus</p> <p>with my previous complaints about them on hellopeter, they have always been particularly mean spirited</p> <p>i really take exception when they continually trumpet that they are 'family'</p> <p>my parents both have osteporosis and the doctor ordered a bone density scan for both of them, to guide his treatment. the medical aid refused to pay for my dads bone density scan, because that benefit is not available to male members.</p> <p> </p> <p>this is despite the fact that many men develop this terrible illness. and his case has been documented as being fairly serious</p> <p>this is total gender ************** and cannot be justified on any grounds.</p> <p> </p> <p>fedhealth please publish your response publically on hello peter here</p> <p>i dont want people to see that the company has rep**** and think that the resolution has been satisfactory</p> <p> </p> <p>jeremy</p>

Fedhealth funds bone density scans for men and women and therefore both your parent’s scans were fully paid on 29/06/2017 from their available benefits.
Apart from funding bone density scans from available benefits, Fedhealth also has a Wellness program which grants additional benefits to members who have a high risk for certain diseases. This enables these members to go for regular screening in order for these diseases to be detected early and treated optimally.
According to US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) Osteoporosis Guideline (Jan 2011), bone density scans are recommended in women aged 65 years and older. For men, evidence of the benefits of bone density scans for osteoporosis is lacking and the balance of benefits and harms cannot be determined.
Based on this research, Fedhealth deemed it appropriate to only make additional osteoporosis screening benefits available for women older than 65 years. The Wellness benefit is therefore not structured based on gender **************, but on medical research. The benefit will be reviewed as research develops.
