Fedhealth does not care about mental health

Just to add my voice to those many, many reviews slamming Fedhealth as the worst in SA - My talented, bright, engineering student son was diagnosed with severe chronic depression and has been put on a medication which is working but is not on Fedhealth's approved list. They have declined the medication without reason several times. After much begging I finally got the reasons today. Turns out he must use their choice of meds and if that does not work there is a second selection of their choice and only then, when the second round has failed, will they consider allowing his current meds. It is insane! He must first get worse before they allow what is currently working. Do these people know anything about the fragility of mental health and meds? You do not stop a regime to start something else and risk losing all the gains. especially when a specialist has decided that is the best in the current situation. A friend's bright, beautiful son committed suicide amidst a change in depression meds - it is a constant heartache. I will not stand for this! My heartfelt plea is that mental health be taken seriously - especially amongst the youth who have seen their matric and varsity years turned into a hollow core of online teaching and constant pressure with no social joy. The exuberance of being young and supposedly making the best friends and memories has been all but eradicated - please watch over them.
