FEDHEALTH DECLINING LIFESAVING CANCER TREATMENT!!!

FEDHEALTH DECLINING LIFESAVING CANCER TREATMENT

My mother was diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago. Fedhealth paid for the chemotherapy that she needed, however they rejected the maintenance chemotherapy that was recommended by her oncologist (to prolong the period she would stay in remission).

5 years later, my mom was told the cancer has returned and now spread to more areas. A treatment regimen/plan was formulated by her haematologist. Fedhealth rejected the claim and said that the Dr would need to submit a letter of motivation. The specialist submitted a letter of motivation clearly explaining the recommended treatment gives her the best longterm survival chance and not the inferior cheaper regime that the medical aid has proposed. The recommended regime is less toxic.

Despite specialist motivation, FEDHEALTH says it's too expensive and she is not on a high enough medical aid option to have access to the meds she NEEDS. They want her to pay more!

This is ridiculous and *******. Cancer diagnoses are a PMB and no limits should be imposed. Fedhealth however feels my mom is not on the highest option therefore she doesn't "qualify" to get the treatment she NEEDS.

FEDHEALTH is deliberately flouting the pmb legislation and is slowly killing my mother by denying her appropriately prescribed treatment. They don't say who has declined the treatment and legally only another specialist can decline it

Needless to say the family is both devastated and despondent by this. FEDHEALTH wants cheaper treatment and is not worried about preserving my mother's life.

We have reported this to the CMS, I hope we get action soon....but time is running out.

FEDHEALTH... DO YOUR JOB AND PAY ACCORDING TO THE LAW!!
