Fedhealth claims I owe them money five years after terminating membership
I was a member of Fedhealth until 30 April 2019. On Friday 13 October 2023, I received a letter (dated 31 October 2022) from ITC Business Administrators stating that I owed the scheme R200 and was being handed over to debt collectors. I only ever paid my scheme membership premiums via my employer, so what this amount is for is a mystery to me as these were always paid in full via debit order. When I phoned Fedhealth, the could not transfer me to the named contact (Marlize Groenewald). They gave me the number of a different debt collector (VVM|) who said they had no record of my details. I phoned ITCBA as well who said they had no record of my account. When I phoned a second time, they said they had been emailing me since January 2020 (nine months after I terminated my membership) - I do not open unsolicited spam from companies with which I have no relationship, and I had not had a relationship with Fedhealth for nine months. When I found the email dated 19 December 2019, I noted that the claim from Fedhealth does not indicate why I owe Fedhealth money despite always paying my premiums in full for over a decade. The consultant I eventually spoke to today ()16 October 2023) indicated the owing amount was due to a pro rata savings allowance that was spent in the last four months of membership. I always paid my membership premiums in full, via my employer for the entirety of my membership lasting over a decade (from 1 Feb 2009), and hardly made any claims in that period. Fedhealth seem to be petty, disorganised and poor communicators. I will never return to this medical scheme and advise others not to as well.
