Extremely Poor Service
Review of Fedhealth Medical Scheme – Extremely Poor Service I am deeply disappointed with the service I have received from Fedhealth Medical Scheme. Despite being the only dependant on my plan and paying R5000 per month, I have been forced to upgrade my plan under the pretext of being a “chronic patient,” even though I am on no chronic medication. My only requirement is an infusion every six weeks, which costs less than R6000.
Yet, every time my case is submitted, it must go before the board, and the process drags on for 3 to 4 months, only to end in rejection. This delay and repeated refusal are not only unacceptable but also detrimental to my health and quality of life.
My condition directly affects my daily functioning, and I have a constitutional right to access appropriate medical treatment to maintain my health. Denying this access compromises disease control and inevitably leads to increased morbidity, hospital admissions, and higher overall healthcare costs.
Despite my doctor submitting numerous motivational letters, the ex-gratia committee continues to reject my applications. This is unjustifiable. Patients who have been receiving and responding positively to a particular treatment, as I have, are entitled to continue that therapy without interruption—especially when prior approval and payment have already been granted.
Fedhealth’s handling of my case demonstrates a pathetic level of service, a lack of compassion, and disregard for both medical necessity and constitutional rights. I urge the scheme to reconsider its approach, as this ongoing obstruction is not only unfair but also harmful to patients who rely on continuity of care.
