Emergency - no hospital authorisation medical aid doenst pay

My child was rushed to hospital late at night - now all the bills are coming through as rejected and I must pay out of my pocket. When it is an emergency how do you as a parent think about calling to get authorisation I am sure the hospital needs to take some action also.
