12,5% increase for 2017 premiums?

Hi there, please can someone explain why Fedhealth increased the rates for 2017 by 12,5% - that's double the rate of inflation and more than most other medical schemes. Surely loyal clients who have always paid their premiums on time should be given a discount?

We understand that the contribution increases are higher than we would have wanted, but rest assured that it is in-line with industry trends. The whole medical aid industry, not just Fedhealth, currently finds itself in challenging times. Just some of the reasons are that private healthcare costs are rising at more than 5% above inflation due to increasing utilisation of healthcare services, high cost medications and treatment technologies. We would relish the opportunity to discuss your specific option increase with you in detail – one of our consultants will be in touch as soon as possible. We would love to discount medical aid contributions for our loyal members; however medical aid legislation doesn't allow this.

Kind Regards
