Complaint

Dear MTN Customer Care, Nimble Group, NCR South Africa, and the Credit Ombud,

I am writing to formally express my deep frustration and distress over the continued harassment I am experiencing from Nimble Group regarding an MTN account that was fully paid and closed over a year ago.

I entered into a contract with MTN that was previously handled by SSDA Attorneys. On 8 February 2024, I received a Paid-Up Letter confirming that the account was fully settled. Despite this, in March 2025, I began receiving calls and messages from Nimble Group, claiming that I still owe MTN starting from 28 February 2024. This is factually incorrect and directly contradicts the paid-up letter issued on 8 February 2024.

I subsequently contacted MTN, and your office confirmed via email that the account was indeed paid in full and that the relevant information would be updated and shared with Nimble Group. However, Nimble Group continues to harass me daily, damaging not only my mental health but also affecting my credit profile.

This issue has left me feeling completely helpless. I have raised a dispute through ClearScore, but they were unable to assist. My credit score has been affected, and this situation is severely impacting both my family life and emotional wellbeing. I am now at the point of raising this matter with the National Credit Regulator (NCR), the Credit Ombud, and relevant authorities due to the unprofessional handling of my account by both MTN and Nimble Group.

I urgently request:

MTN to provide a direct, official Paid-Up Letter addressed to Nimble Group.

Nimble Group to immediately cease all forms of harassment and update their records.

The NCR and Ombud to intervene and ensure this matter is properly investigated and resolved.

Removal of any negative credit reporting related to this paid-up account.

Please treat this matter as urgent. I have fully met my financial obligations, and I should not have to suffer ongoing emotional and reputational harm because of miscommunication or administrative errors between your offices.

Good day,

The Office of the FAIS Ombud has noted your complaint below against MTN and the Nible Group in respect of your MTN Account and the effect it has had to your credit score etc.

The Office of the FAIS Ombud investigates and resolves complaints in terms of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act No. 37 of 2002 (‘FAIS Act’). The complaint however must relate to the advice and or intermediary service provided by a registered financial services provider or a representative of the financial services provider in the rendering of a financial service in respect of a financial product.

After careful assessment of your complaint, it would appear that it is a credit-related matter and that there are no advisory or intermediary service issues that have contributed to your complaint.

As a result, your complaint falls outside of the jurisdiction of this Office in terms of the FAIS Act.

The appropriate forum to investigate your complaint is however the National Financial Ombud Scheme, an amalgamation of the offices of the Banking Ombud; the Credit Ombud; the office of the Long-term Insurance Ombud; and the Short-Term Insurance Ombudsman.

We encourage you to contact the National Financial Ombud Scheme on the following contact details: (Should you require any assistance in submitting a complaint with the National Financial Ombud Scheme, you may contact us on ***)
