facebook - I don't need it!

A few days ago I was sent a "friend" request by a relative. I ticked "yes". I was then bombarded by "friend" requests, some of which I agreed to. Since then I cannot log in to Facebook. I get sent account recovery passwords that I use immediately but never work. I don't think I need facebook. I tried deleting the icon but it seems I can't. I want to smash my device but although it is still an option it does not seem wise.
