False Credit Rating

I voluntarily surrendered the my car, but however Experian , noted my account with MFC as "handed over/adverse account" with "9 months in arrears". which is all false. I'm not happy as this affected my credit rating badly. The car was sold on auction and i have made arrangements with the bank to settle the outstanding balance, but i fail to understand why i have been poorly rated.
