Experian SA refused to correct my credit record after I submitted proof that my payment went through.

Experian SA refused to correct my credit record after I submitted proof that my payment went through.

The facts: My Vodacom debit order runs on the 25th of each month. April 25 fell on a Saturday. Vodacom does not process debit orders on weekends. The payment was debited by Vodacom and reflects on my account statement. I did not miss a payment. I did not make a short payment. The debit order ran late because of a system limitation on Vodacom's side.

I submitted a dispute with Experian, reference EXP***4-CD211631, with the account statement as evidence. Experian invalidated my dispute and told me they do not have the jurisdiction to intervene in contractual matters between a consumer and a credit provider.

This response misses the point entirely. I am not asking Experian to resolve a contractual dispute. I am asking them to correct inaccurate data on my credit record. That is exactly their mandate under the National Credit Act.

Experian then told me my account is in arrears and that I am currently paying arrears due. This is also inaccurate. The statement I submitted shows both payments were debited and credited.

Experian holds enormous power over consumers' financial lives. With that power comes the responsibility to verify what credit providers report before accepting it as fact. When a consumer provides clear documentary evidence of payment, Experian is obligated to investigate, not to dismiss the dispute and redirect the consumer back to the creditor.
