Experian Protects Creditors, Not Consumers
I have been struggling with two accounts on my Experian profile that are both prescribed. These debts are more than six years old, and should not legally remain on my credit report. I am almost certain they were removed years ago and have now been added back without any notice or proof.
The companies who listed these debts are not reachable. I no longer have access to the old bank account used for payment because it was so long ago. Yet Experian repeatedly closes my disputes due to “lack of information” on my side instead of requesting proof from the party that made the listing.
This means anyone can list anything on your name, and if you cannot provide paperwork from more than six years ago, Experian simply sides with them. No objective investigation. No accountability.
This is not the first time I’ve experienced this with Experian. Previously, the only way I got results was by escalating directly to their head office in another country and speaking with their media liaison team.
I will now have to repeat this entire process again, while also preparing to escalate through the Credit Ombud and NCR, including a PAIA request. All of this could be avoided if Experian simply required the listing parties to provide proof and respond to communication.
Experian’s dispute process does not protect consumers. It protects inaccurate and unverified listings.
