Exclusive Books poor management

My brother, who has just finished school, was set to do volunteer work at Exclusive Books in Brooklyn for the second year in a row during the December holidays. The job entailed Christmas wrapping books and gifts for no pay but working solely on tips.

He went in for his first day, as requested by the Manager, in order to sort out a roster with the other volunteers. He was greeted by the Assistant Manager with a hail of screaming and insults as she had no knowledge of him coming in. After this tirade, he was allowed to spend his day working at the store.

Again upon request, he came in for his second day of work. This time he was told they didn't him there that day and since he relies on transport can sit around for the day doing nothing or go home at his own expense.

I went in to go and speak to the managers and find out what was happening and found out first-hand how rude and callous the Assistant Manager is. She refused to listen or even discuss a solution. We stood in the middle of the store having her belittle and shout at us, throwing slurs and bad-mouthing the manager as well claim she was obviously not at fault but her manager is the one to blame.

She eventually asked us to leave and lay a complaint "as if she cares".

I had worked at two different Exclusive Books stores while finishing my degree and always thought it to be an amazing place. It pains me that recent events by one staff member has cast such a negative light on this establishment
