Horrible Service

I was made to move into a house without curtain rails and no locks on doors. It's literally free access for all. This is after I had paid every cent that was invoiced. This is happening in Honeydew, Johannesburg, where everyone knows the crime level is high. 9 days later we are still living like we're squatters who hijacked the property yet we paid in full. I can never recommend Etchells & Young Property to anyone in my lifetime. It's appalling that they think so little about people. Whoever thinks of doing business with Etchells & Young Property, know that it's at your own risk.

Hello Mohau Ntanjana,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We genuinely regret that you have had such a bad experience in this property. As the managing agents, our goal is to facilitate a smooth tenancy process, and we understand the frustration that arises when things don't go as planned.

We want to clarify that some of the issues you mentioned, fall under the purview of the landlord’s responsibility to rectify before you move in and are out of our control. As I'm sure you are aware, Etchells & Young do not own this property, nor can we make unilateral decisions, but need authorisation from the landlord before we can spend their money.  Since we became involved to assist and remedy the situation and BEFORE you wrote this "review" we received the approval to rectify all the items and you were notified. We have actively worked with you and the landlord to resolve these concerns. Our agent Kerry also went out of her way to help and assist even after hours and we communicated with you throughout the process. You were so nice about it! Surely one judges services on the way a company responds to and deals with a situation or crisis?

We do however feel that while you are now warning the public not to do business with Etchells & Young, you are not being truthful or supplying all the facts. Surely you know that when you go out to try and Cancel a Company, your actions could have consequences affecting the lives and livelihoods of other innocent people. You have the moral and ethical obligation to at least be truthful about your accusation!  It appears that you have catastrophised the situation to suit your narrative.
You state that "you were made to move into a house with no locks on doors (who forced you?). It's literally free access for all and you were living like squatters who hijacked the property" yet all the locks in the house were working, besides a problem with one security gate, which was rectified as soon as we received the authorisation from the landlord to do so.  We are not saying that there were no issues, we are saying that we were working with you and the landlord to resolve them as soon as we became aware that the landlord had not done what was promised to you.

Despite the flawed conclusion that you have reached, we will continue to support you in any way we can during your stay in this property. We do however strongly encourage you to reach out to us directly, should you experience any further issues.  We find that dealing directly with the people involved to solve a problem is so much better than writing a meaningless and flawed review.

All the best,
The Awesome Team @Etchells & Young
