On the 18th September 2018 I went to Engen Garage at Hospital View, Tembisa. I asked the guy (Papa) who helped me to fill up my tank and check water & oil for me. Upon opening the bonnet, he discovered that my dipstick was broken. He then called me out of the car to see it. I then explained to him that the last time my bonnet was opened was at the same garage on the morning of the 13th September 2018 when I was assisted by some lady. I also informed him that the only time my bonnet is opened is every time when I fill up at garages because I always have my water & oil checked. He then asked me for the slip, which I produced and luckily the lady (Performance) I think that is what her name is; was still around just after she knocked off. When she was called she said she remembered helping me and she didn’t check water &oil for me as I was in a rush. I then asked them to check cctv footage, she firstly insisted that the cameras were not working on that day as they had just been repaired. The manager Michael Roos was then called, he kept on insisting that I took too long to come and report. I explained that how could I have noticed the broken dipstick if I don’t open my bonnet. He then said I should give him my slip from the 13th & he will ask someone to check the camera’s and get back to me the next day. When I got home, after a couple of minutes, Michael called and at first he sounded very aggressive saying from the footage, I got to the garage, got out of my car and went back inside and drove off. I then explained it to him that he is correct; what made me drive off was because I realised before the gentleman who was there to assist me started with pouring of petrol that I had left my handbag at home. I asked him to check the footage further because I came back and used the same petrol pump and this time around I was assisted by Performance. He then said he is checking the footage further and called back. He explained that the footage does show Performance doing a checking of the water & oil and coming to show me the dipstick. He insists that he can see that there was no force used to put back the dipstick then asked him how we resolve this matter. I suggested that we go 50/50 on the expense of getting the one which broke inside removed and buying a new one. He said no, he can’t get his employee to pay for something she didn’t do. I must go open a case at the police station and they must come see the footage and take a decision. I asked him to leave my slip behind so I can fetch it in the morning and he agreed; when I arrived in the morning I was told he hadn’t left it behind and I must come back after 14h00 as that is when his shift starts.
