SUCH AN UNECESSARY INCONVINIENCE

On the 1st of September, I visited Engen Petroleum Withok Convenience Centre, which I frequent almost daily because it is closest to my home. I requested my tank to be filled for R200.

When I made the first payment using my bank card, the transaction declined on Engen’s machine, but the money was still deducted from my account. The attendants insisted that since they did not receive it on their side, I had to pay another R200, and they assured me that the first payment would bounce back into my account within 48 hours.

Unfortunately, the money never bounced back. When I returned to the station to follow up, I was asked for a bank statement. I explained that the transaction was still pending, so nothing would show. My bank confirmed on their side that the transaction reflected as Engen taking the money, yet Engen claimed they never received it.

Since then, I have been left to deal with the inconvenience of writing to my bank, filling in forms, and running around to resolve this issue myself. Engen has not taken responsibility, has not checked on me, and has not offered any assistance beyond saying, “we don’t know what happened.”

This has been both frustrating and disappointing, especially considering how often I support this particular Engen. I expect better accountability, proper investigation, and a resolution to recover my money.
