Rude, aggressive, and *********** manager

We stopped to fuel up at the Engen garage on Schoeman Street in Hatfield on Sunday, 25 September 2016 at roughly 7pm. My partner asked the attendant, Kumbu, to fill the car with R100 of 93 unleaded fuel. I went to throw some boxes away and when I returned to the car, there seemed to be an issue. I asked my partner what the issue was and she said that the attendant filled the car with R160 of fuel instead of the requested R100. The manager Pilane, who by his attitude and understanding of such issues, did not give the impression of the manger was being threatening and rude to my partner. Pilane said we must empty the tank to get the money. I asked him if he is a mechanic, as I don’t want someone to damage my vehicle. After a very arrogant response from Pilane saying that we need to empty the tank, I said that he can go and call a mechanic to come drain the fuel. Pilane kept going on with his rude and threating behaviour about how we still have a problem. I said that seeing as it is not my fault, that between the attendant and the store, they need to write that R60 off on principle. He again was threating that there is a problem. This is when I became aggressive and demanded his name and the name of the attendant. Once I got the names of the staff members, Pilane then said ‘You can pay the R100, we know you kind of customers’, insinuating that we were trying to get away without paying. I then told Pilane I will pay the full amount, and then he refused to allow me to pay the full amount after I said I was going to report this incident. Until I told him, I was going to report him and took their names, he was trying to intimidate us to pay the full amount, and continued to insult us by saying that its not his problem if we do not have the R160. I raised a point saying what would he have done if I only had R100 left in my account, he then said its not his fault we don’t have money. After screaming and shouting, he refused to let me pay, saying that I would need to write and sign a letter that I accept this payment. I then continued to insist that I pay the full amount. I paid the full amount after continually insisting that I want to pay the full amount. Pilane then asked me what my issue was and insinuated again that we were trying to get away without paying and that we are ‘those kind of customers, we get them all the time’ Pilane and Kumbu refused to apologise for over filling, and refused to apologise for their behaviour. I told Pilane that himself and Kumbu were *********** and rude. Pilane said he was not rude because he did not swear. Pilane also told Kumbu to write down our registration details as if he was going to use this information to retaliate. Pilane refuses responsibility for this and refused to contact the manager or owner. This is disgusting as two men were intimidating a woman, before I intervened. Is this standard practice to be rude, threating and refuse to apologise when your staff made an error? All we wanted was an apology and notice of the error, however, we landed up arguing and being threatened by staff at your facility.

I have been contacted by management from the station in question and did recieve an apology and feedback from discussions from the staff members involved. Very impressed with how Kassiem handled the situation from his end and the effort from his side to understand what went wrong.
