Request for Assistance – Complaint Against Sunbush Garage

To Whom It May Concern,

Subject: Request for Assistance – Complaint Against Sunbush Garage

I am writing to request your assistance in resolving a dispute with Sunbush Garage, owned by Mr. Pierre Du Toit, situated at 65 Sapphire Street, Benoni (on the premises of the Engen Garage at the corner of Sapphire and Mercury Streets, Benoni).

We took our vehicle to Mr. Du Toit for repairs. He initially advised us that the vehicle was not worth repairing due to faulty fuel injectors. After considerable deliberation, we decided to purchase a new engine and gearbox from LDR Engines in Pretoria. Below is a summary of the subsequent events:

1. On 11 July 2024, we ordered and paid R23,850 for a new engine from LDR Engines, which was delivered the next day to Sunbush Garage. Mr. Du Toit agreed to remove the old engine, replace it with the new one, and return the vehicle within a week. 2. Two weeks later, we were informed that the engine delivered was incorrect, and a replacement was arranged by LDR Engines. The new engine was fitted, but Mr. Du Toit then claimed there was no power to the injectors, leading to another replacement by LDR Engines. 3. On 19 July 2024, Mr. Du Toit requested R6,000 for parts and estimated the labor cost at R4,600. That same evening, we paid R10,000 into Sunbush Garage’s account. 4. Despite fitting the engine, we were informed that the issue with the injectors persisted. LDR Engines kindly replaced the injectors on 2 September 2024. Even after this, Mr. Du Toit claimed the injectors were faulty and not receiving power. 5. Over the next four months, every time we requested an update, we were met with vague excuses. After enduring this for so long, we finally instructed Mr. Du Toit to stop all work on the vehicle on 12 September 2024 and return the vehicle within 24 hours. 6. On 16 September 2024, we received a non-functional vehicle that had to be towed to our premises. The engine, along with various interior and engine parts, were packed loosely inside the vehicle. Many engine components were unfastened, and an injector was so loose that it could be easily pulled from the engine block. Additionally, we have since been informed that the mechanic working on our vehicle was unqualified to perform this type of work.

We are seeking assistance to recover the following amounts:

• R10,000 paid to Sunbush Garage for parts and labor. • R23,850 paid for the engine and gearbox, as the warranty has been voided due to the prolonged delay. • Loss of income for four months, amounting to R20,000 per month (totaling R80,000).

Attached are photographs documenting the condition in which the vehicle was returned to us.

We would greatly appreciate your intervention and assistance in resolving this matter.

Kind regards, Russell Spoelstra NexGen Transfers
