Damage suffered

On14 February 2023 at round about 19:40 PM I was filling petrol at R55 Tanganani Engen, the petrol attendant that was assisting me by the name Dimakatso broke my fuel door.Yesterday I went to the filling station to lodge a complain and I found a lady and a gentleman, they adviced me to bring a quotation for the damage so that I could be paid of which I did. After about an hour the same lady phoned me and told me that I'm actually supposed to fix the car and bring the invoice to show that I have fixed the car. Immediately I drove to the filling station and found a guy by the name Bennett who also spoke to me over the phone, He said yes I'm supposed to fix the car and bring the invoice then I will get paid. So what I want to know is that if I am not working and I can't fix the car, does it mean that I will not be paid for the damage? Does this mean that ENGEN is not supposed to pay me since I can't fix the car? Who is responsible for this damage? and why should there be conditions for me to be compensated?
