Bad experience with Engen Iris Motors & Engen SA Ltd

I had a bad experience with Engen Iris Motors situated in Norwood as well as Engen SA Ltd itself as a franchisor. I’ve been having a dispute with Engen Iris Motors for almost a month over damages caused by the negligence of their staff. Their petrol attendant accidentally poured diesel in my car instead of fuel and this resulted in my car’s engine being damaged. Initially they gave me the assurance that they will sort out my car and I should not worry. They later came up with stupid excuses as to why they cannot be held accountable for the damages. This became a back and forth dispute which was going anywhere. I then decided to escalate this matter to Engen SA head office who were not so helpful. They did intervene, however, they told me that the can only advise the petrol station on what to do from an ethical point of view but cannot force them to take responsibility. I am very disappointed in both the garage and Engen SA itself as the head office. I have been putting fuel at the very same garage for as long as I can remember because the garage is actually based in my area. It has also came to my attention that the petrol station itself (Engen Iris Motors) is not registered with FRA (Fuel Retailers Association of South Africa) and hence FRA cannot intervene in this dispute.

This is totally not unacceptable as they are taking advantage of members of the public and are not being ethical in their business practices.
