ATTEMPTED THEFT UNSOLVED

We have a fleet of vehicles and on the 10 May 2023 one of our employees put in petrol at the Engen Middelvlei filling station on the R28 Randfontein. We have fleet cards and each card has a limit on for the vehicle and this specific vehicle had a limit of 50 litres, at the pump where he put petrol in the amount was R1169 for 50 litres, the petrol attendant took the card inside to go and do the transaction when the attendant came back our employee was informed that it has been declined. He contacted me and i called FNB to ask what is going on, our consultant informed me that the reason why it declined is because he put in 53 litres and he didnt. Thereafter our employee started asking to speak to the manager and the manager was not at the garage on this day, after his happened they tried another machine and it went through at R9 less than the original amount and at 54 litres and the petrol amount was R21.38 but on the original slip it was charged at R23.38. When our employee received all his slips back the first one has two transactions on one being for 50litres of 93 unleaded petrol and another for R200 dynamic diesel which our employee did no authorise or get seeing as though it is a NISSAN NP200 petrol bakkie. When i reported this as attempted theft i got a quick response from Engen head office enquiring and investigating the matter. Only to get an explanation that they have two machines one being an FNB and another one which is NEDBANK which as they explained "The backup merchant device is for one of our sites which is CLV Retail t/a Engen Waterside that is why the merchant slip shows company name as CLV Retail. The Nedbank backup merchant device is not integrated with the system; therefore, the price changes are manually updated on the merchant device unlike with the FNB devices which are integrated"

Then i asked but why on the first slip which was declined are there two transactions and two amounts which come to R1369 that was going to be charged to our fleet card and there explanation was the following:

"Kindly note that the R200.00 transaction is not for you. As you can see it is a different attendant and all the information, it just happened that the printout came out with the transaction for the other attendant".

As i said to Mamaboka Monyake from CLV group this explanation does not make sense and it seems as though something else is happening here, i spoke to the manager who requested i send the employees statement which i did twice and until today i have heard nothing, we will no longer be using that garage. If we could we would ***cott ENGEN as a whole.
