Ekurhuleni Electricity Dept. Robs Man on Disability Pension in Broad Daylight
On the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of August I purchased three electricity tokens for my meter at home, tokens which I may point out according to the website are valid for 12 months. This was a life saver as I was looking after my wheelchair bound mother whilst my father underwent cancer surgery to remove his larynx and vocal chords.... There was complications and he ended up in a coma and eventually in ICU on a ventilator for 134 days. 5 and a half months I looked after my mother. On my return home I promptly fished out my three tokens and found them to be useless, on further investigation, that the Ekurhuleni had changed the system in September rendering all tokens purchased prior to that date as useless... this without any notification. On calling the electricity department and speaking to Alex, Alex informs me ha cannot assist me over the phone, I must go in to see him in person. 9 0clock Thursday morning, I'm met with a lovely woman downstairs who assists me in every way possible, confirms the purchase of the token but informs me that Alex is not in the office and proceeds to contact him via cellphone. Alex requires I leave all my details including the meter number and how will "investigate". Nothing. Monday morning I return to the Len Futcher Building, Room 403, if anybody cares, and again, Alex is not in his office. Leave another note with all the details required and I'm guaranteed that he will contact me in that day. Again, Nothing Go in this morning and Alex is in.....inquire about how he got on with the investigation and he has absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, hasn't even looked at the case...that's why I wasn't getting any feedback and why I had been forced to drive in several times, Alex just could not care. I explain the scenario to him again, his response, my hands are tied, cop, corporate will not allow him to credit my account despite the circumstances. Just like that, they forfeited R1250 worth of electricity and send me on my way... despite the fact that the tokens on date of purchase were valid for 12 months. The no care attitude is disgusting and quite frankly I feel ******, ironically my a company I invested 29 years of my life with. I worked for this place and can never remember having watched the service delivery become so ***********. I can tell you this though, "DA", it might not mean a lot to you, but R1250 is a lot of money for someone on disability pension like myself..... This is not how residents want to be treated..... I can forgive, but I'm certainly not going to forget. Good Luck Next Year Bye the way.......Bunch of charlottens.
