EKHURULENI municipalities bad service
Last month I had my power cut off due to the previous tenants had bridged the meter. I did make my landlord aware of this and my husband wrote an affidavit stating what had happened and that we would take accountability and pay the fine of R3800. I'm currently unemployed and my husband works odd jobs now and again because of retrenchment. He had stated that he would split the the fine payment into two as be didn't have any money at that time. He documented on the affidavit that he would pay R1500 in one month and another R1500 on the next month. The municipality agreed and replaced our meter after days of not having any power. Last week Friday they blocked our meter and we are unable to recharge the meter. We went to the municipality in germiston to make another payment arrangement as we couldn't afford the full R1500 as previously stated, they refused to assist us as they where not willing to take anything less then R1500. My husband doesn't work a full time job and didnt get as many jobs as he would have to accumulate this money however they were less then understanding the customer care lady was so hostile towards us. We asked if we could make a new payment arrangement as we had funds she and her supervisor were not will to take even a R1000 or less. We still have no power and this municipality refuses to take any payment. It seems that apperently they are not willing to understand that we live in a bad economy with most people having being retrenched last year and many still not employed. I was apphuled at the service we received and yet our problem is still not solved. We left the offices with the money and no assistance whatsoever.
