Closed my account (City of Ekurhuleni) on the 3rd of January 2020 still awaiting refund

I sold my house in 2019. On the 3rd of January 2020 I went to rates and taxes office of the City of Ekurhuleni in Alberton and close my account.

The gentleman proceeded to close the account. He advised me that Ekurhuleni would pay back R6498.00 on the 1st of March 2020. However when I enquired about the process of moneys being paid back to me the agent advised that Ekurhuleni do not pay back funds directly to individuals but back to the attorneys.

To date the funds have not been paid. Why have the fund not been payed ? What is the issue? Will I be paid with interest?

Its amazing if customers don't pay the bills they turn off the services within a day and charge interest. I was never later for a payment nor did I ever miss a payment.

It is almost a year now that I have sold my house. Imagine if they do this with all house sales (I wonder how much interest they are earing year on year by withholding refunds)

They have no respect of customer or South African citizens
