Absolute lack of service

I recently bought a property in a new development. The developer has informed me that sectional title rates and taxes are no longer handled in the same way as a couple of years ago, and that owners now have to open their own accounts. They gave me their account number, and instructed me to take that to the council, together with my unit number in order to open an account.

Over the course of the past hour, I've tried to phone the Ekurhuleni offices in Benoni 25 times, and the only answer I got was from someone who told me that I've reached the wrong department. He gave me another number, on which there is no answer either. The call centre number from the Ekurhuleni website (***) doesn't even ring when I try it.

I phoned Edenvale this morning and they addressed my query in about 30 seconds. Unfortunately, it seems like the only efficient office that I can find cannot handle my account in Benoni. All I want to know is what I need to open an account, in addition to what the developer sent me. I do not live in Benoni, and I do not want to waste even more time driving there if I do not have the necessary documents.

Why do I have to beg to pay my taxes?

Hello rfnel,

You need to take the information from the developer, as well as the proof of purchase, any clearance certificates, original Id, plus copy of ID

Kind Regards
