Eduvos Cancellation Fees

I enrolled with Eduvos under the pretenses that I will be paying for my own studies. During the December holidays my mother was submitted into hospital and could not work anymore which placed me in a state of financial difficulty. I advised the HOD before the December holidays ended that I may need to place my studies on hold due to financial difficulty. They eventually cancelled my enrollment however they proceeded to charge me more than R22 000 worth of cancellation and tuition fees. According to Section 17 of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), an institution is only permitted to charge a "reasonable" cancellation fee. Legally, you are barred from retaining a significant portion of a deposit or charging full tuition for a year in which services were not utilized. R22000 is NOT a reasonable amount especially when someone is already under financial difficulty. I have tried to dispute these charges which took two months for them to get back to me only to tell me theres nothing they can do to help me when I never made any use of the services from the beginning of the year. I am being threatened to be handed over now which will quite possibly ruin any chances I have in having a future keeping in mind I am 22 years old with no knowledge of how these things work and now I will be starting my life out in immense difficulty all due to this school I should have never enrolled in. Please do not consider studying with private institutions. All they care about is money and how they can milk you wherever they can.
