I approached Easyweb Internet Services - @easywebinternet due to problems with ADSL with the promise of an amicable solution for internet to our home in JHB.

Signed a 24 month contract - R899 a month for 5MBps wireless internet throttled to 75% of that. We've had constant issues and requests get ignored until the complaints get heated then something was done about it.

I'm relocating to CPT so I want to cancel the contract - 14 months left in the contract.

There's a term in the contract that states that if I cancel the contract, I'm liable for "a cancellation fee and admin fee". No mention of an amount or percentage.

First Easyweb says I need to pay the full amount of the remaining contract - R13,819.65

I told them to get lost.

Then "they had a meeting and came up with new fees". Now it's R6,742.50

They'll re-use the dish. A modem costs R200. I won't use any bandwidth. If this is a fair cancellation fee then maybe I'm missing something?

Now instead of being considerate due to their lacklustre contract terms, they've threatened me with legal action.

Thank goodness there are other ISP's that value their customers' business.

I'll now be getting uncapped, guaranteed 10MBps for R750 on a month-to-month basis.
