Worst Mechanical experience

I have asked the Eastvaal Motors at Bethal on Saturday 01 August 2021 to check what could be the problem with my Renualt Sandero 2016 expressions model, the vehicle was parked 60 meters from them at a Sasol Garage around the corner. The service center manager said he will call their technician to come and check the vehicle. After 25 minutes the technician came and checked the vehicle, while he was checking i explained to him on what the vehicle did it was overheating and burning water. Strangley the technician did not pay too much attention to what i was saying he kept on checking.

He kept on mentioning that the engine could be damaged and i would need to buy a new engine for R90000 which was way higher than the value of the vehicle at the time. Neither the technician nor the workshop Manager by the name of Ian told me of any cost of the call out fee of the technician, the technician suggested he takes the car into thier workshop for throughout diagnostic of which was going to happen on Monday 02 August 2021, With me knowing i have a mechanical cover from Absa i said to him he can take it.

On Monday 03 August 2021 the dealer contacted me for information on the vehicle mechanical breakdown insurance, I gave them all the information required, after they confirmed with the insurance they were informed the insurance wouldn't cover a strip open quote, they asked me if I could i told them I also would not afford it, i told Ian the Manager i will send some one to collect the vehicle by Wednesday or Thursday he agreed on Thursday isee they sent me an invoice of a call out technical fee of R862. They demanded i pay it before they can realise the vehicle. I was shocked as i did not get or agreed to any charges before.

I called the workshop and spoke to Ian himself he insisted i asked for some one to come check my vehicle, it meant i knew there would be a call out fee. I told him this was unfair business practice but he specifically told me he will keep my vehicle until i pay. I payed them to avoid unnecessary future charges. But i tol him i would lay a formal complaint regarding the issue.

Good day Ayanda

Thank you for giving me the time to investigate this matter. Please note that it is standard practice in many service sectors to charge a call out fee which is subject to higher rates when the call is afterhours or at the weekend.

We are sorry if you feel there was a miscommunication and wish you safe driving.

Regards

Devorah and the Eastvaal Motors Family.

The issue here is thatno one told me about the callout fee that's the problem. I only got to hear about it when i took out the vehicle. I was **********ly charged. I need my R862 to be paid back.
