WILL DO ANYTHING TO MAKE SURE YOUR RENTAL INSURANCE IS INVALID.
I am absolutely disgusted with Thrifty in this situation. To disclose, I paid the full amount with the following explanation and was not even acknowledged for my thoughts on this matter, and merely received a "case closed" email. When the damage happened, I took it straight in to Thrifty, and completed all the forms and followed all instructions that were given. I had also taken out all the comprehensive super cover options, which should have covered something like this. In the fine print (which I have attached) I must report the accident to a local Police, however I did not realise this was an "accident," it was a scratch in the airport carpark on an exit ticket machine which is what they had written on the damage report. As a lay person, I believed this incident was merely a scratched door, and not an accident which one would not report to the Police. I also was under the impression that the airport car park was private property, owned by ACSA, which I was aware would mean that it did not count as an accident which would need to be reported the police. Secondly, when I completed the document at their Airport branch (where I collected the car) on the vehicle return, at no time did the THRIFTY representative ask for a case number or inform me that I needed to report this to the Police. This should surely be his responsibility when accepting my report. The monies came off 8th September (R940) which was the accident damage fee and petrol (as the vehicle rental was paid in full before collection). I tried to email explaining the situation and never heard anything further, the monies were deducted so I assumed all was sorted. I received a letter of demand on the 16th May 2016 which was registered. The letter of demand was dated 15 October 2015 so was advised by my lawyers to ignore it, as it was not valid. I now have received another letter couriered and signed by my **** in July headed warning letter. Attached are the emails sent as well. I am appalled at the way Thrifty has dealt with this matter and that this entire cost to me could have been avoided on my side if your employee had simply advised me to report the "accident" when I completed the damage report, rather than telling me that there was nothing else that was required. as there is even a police station at the airport. Thrifty has blatantly abused a customer's ignorance in order to avoid paying out a claim. Which is certainly not the first time as I can see from many of these reviews.
