I hired a car out at Dollar Thrifty Car Rental - Durban International airport branch on the 9th to 11th of September 2022. After driving for about 4 kilometers, I noticed that the wheel cover had moved out and was hanging on the cable tie (which had been used to secure it on the wheel}. I tried to secure it back using my fist. When I reached my destination, the wheel cover was no longer in the car. When I returned the car on the 11th, I explained what happened, adding that the wheel cover was not in condition. They argued that I was supposed to remove it and keep it in the car boot when I noticed it was loose. I explained to them that, it was in the middle of nowhere and I didn't have the tools to cut the cable tie. I also showed them that the car still had its three-wheel covers, to prove that the said wheel cover really was not in a good condition. So, Dollar Thrifty went ahead and deducted R1500,00 from my deposit even though it was their car that was faulty. I wish to warn the public NOT TO USE THIS COMPANY AT ALL! Generally, their cars are not in good condition, you spend a lot of time acknowledging numerous scratches and dents during inspection.
