The Dollar Thrifty Heist
I can't with Thrifty. I borrowed a car about three weeks ago and merrily driving along the N2 past Kokstad a deer found itself in the middle of the road and I ran into it. I payed the deposit before the Durban International branch closed and that would be at 23:00hrs. They dispatched a car and my husband and I waited at this junk yard for the that car that left at 23:00hrs to get to us (Durban is 3 hours away). The car made it way to us in Kokstad Weather (COLD) at 05:30am....They then took R1000 from the card for the damages. I told them they can't take more as there was Gas money for the trip to Mthatha and I was already in the Red due to the deposit I had to make for the new car. The gentleman over the phone was kind and said they had to get R8000 for the deductible as per my conversation he would let them know. Over the course of the weekend I kept getting 'insufficient funds' messages because they were trying to take R3000 to cover the lost car. Long story short they did not return the deposit I paid for the new car and today they helped themselves to R3500 form my account. I called them and they said since it was a single car accident then I had to pay double the R8000. They called back and spoke to my husband and said with it being a single car accident then now the amount is R40 000. I must be dense or something. I get the fact that it was a single car accident However, was it also not a force of 'Nature'??? ***** this, I have rented over 50 cars from here and granted this is not the first time I'm being bitten, I shall take my business elsewhere.
